Your survey response rate is one of the determining factors of statistically significant results. The higher the response rate the lower the margin of error, which can only benefit the confidence level of your subsequent decisions and actions. So it’s fair to say that keeping an eye on your response rates is good practice.

In order to obtain reliable results, though, the global response rate isn’t the only number you need to keep an eye on. You also want to make sure that all demographic groups are represented proportionately in your responses.

What if the response rate is lower in some offices / departments / countries / age groups / … than in others? You can’t tell by just looking at the numbers in the survey overview page.

For that very reason we’ve created more detailed survey response rate charts. Using these you can track your response rates in real time and see at a glance whether the response rates per contact field are high enough to get statistically significant results. You no longer have to calculate these yourself.

The global response rate chart gives you the overview of your survey’s response rate in general. Simply click anywhere on the pie chart to get the breakdown per contact status.

Additionally you can filter on any contact field you imported into your account to see the response rates divided by that field. This is done via the “Show response rate by…” drop-down menu. This drop-down shows all fields you imported along with your contacts. So really any data you wish to use will be available.

Let’s say you imported your staff’s departments and you notice that HR is lagging behind? A gentle nudge or additional reminder by a line manager might just tip over the scale. Easy peasy, right?

Share the response rate charts

The other good part about these new response rate charts is that you can share them with people who don’t have access to CheckMarket. So your own client or manager can follow up on their survey’s response rates in real time as well. This should free up quite some time for you to do other important things (such as analyzing the results that are coming in).
